Saturday night I saw the American remake of the move “Let the Right One in” called “Let Me In”.

I’m not going to trash on the movie. On the whole it is pretty good.  There were some specific elements in particular that I really liked, but all in the movie failed on one very undeniable element.

It is an American remake of a movie that is already pretty good.

I am reminded of the South Park episode where Cartman dresses up as a robot and is commandeered by Hollywood to generate movie ideas that all involved Ben Affleck and some trite and easily digestible plot that, frankly, pisses me off from the moment is offends my ears.  BECAUSE IT’S FUCKING TRUE!

Seriously!  The Borg as a threat in some imagined future?!  We’re already there!  ORIGINALITY IS FUTILE.  Hell, we’re remaking our own cinematic manure.  Mostly BADLY!

So, while I watched Let Me In and found it pretty good (possibly better than the original, which I haven’t seen) it is still good for all the wrong reasons.  While I understand “all stories have already been told”, with an industry with so much money, you’d think that they’d be less obvious about the retelling.  But I guess the real problem lies with us the viewer.  Like a battered wife, we think this is the best we deserve, and won’t stand up for anything better.

Think about all the romantic comedies out there. They all follow the same plot outline. Seriously I think they just have a series or variables and they pull them out of a hat, or use a dart board, to make the next movie.

Originality is rare. Hell even Star Wars is based on other movies.
